One of the ways that we grow as Christians is through the study of God’s word. God speaks to us through His word. The Bible is one of the keys to a renewal in the church. During the year we offer a variety of Bible studies. Watch the newsletter for details of each study. Scholarships are available for materials needed for the study. Contact the minister for financial assistance.
Seasonal Studies for Advent and Lent
Traditionally, we offer a Bible study during the four Sundays of Advent as well as during the six weeks of Lent. These are short-term Bible studies and are open to members or visitors.
Disciple Bible Study
Disciple Bible Study is one of the greatest studies that the United Methodist Church has published. The original Disciple Bible studies are long term- lasting 32-34 weeks.
Disciple I - “Disciple: Becoming Disciples Through Bible Study.” This is an overview of the whole Bible.
Disciple II - “Into the Word Into the World” This study concentrates on Genesis, Exodus, Luke, and Acts.
Disciple III - “Remember Who You Are” focuses on the Prophets and the letters of Paul.
Disciple IV “Under The Tree of Life” concentrates on the writings in the Old Testament - Ruth, 1 and 2 Chronicles, Ezra, Nehemiah, Esther, Job, Psalms, Proverbs, Ecclesiastes, Song of Solomon, Lamentations, and Daniel. New Testament Scriptures studied include the Gospel of John, John 1,2,3; James, Jude , and Revelation. In this study there is a special emphasis on Psalms.
Short-term Disciple Bible Studies are available also. These studies last 8-10 weeks. Studies we have used so far are "Invitation to the Old Testament", "Invitation to the New Testament", "Invitation to John", "Invitation to Genesis", and "Invitation to Psalms".
Sunday School
Our Sunday School classes also study the Bible. The Lands Sunday School Class uses the "International Bible Series" as their study book. The Open Door Sunday School class which meets in our Fellowship Hall studies a variety of materials. They are currently studying a book of James Moore, "When Your Faith Lands On The Critical List You Need…Healing Where It Hurts."
